Dr. Terry Marquardt
Dr. Terry Marquardt completed his undergraduate education at the University of New Mexico, and his Doctor of Optometry degree at Southern College of Optometry. His Post-graduate training included a Contact Lens Research Fellowship at Southern College. He has been an extended wear contact lens clinical investigator for Johnson and Johnson, and the US Food and Drug Administration. He also has served as Low Vision Consultant for New Mexico Services for the Blind, and the New Mexico School for the Blind & Visually Impaired. He is presently Adjunct Professor for Northeastern State University, College of Optometry and is in private practice in Alamogordo, NM.
He has served as a board director for the New Mexico Optometric Association and as President of the New Mexico State Board of Examiners. In 1998, the New Mexico Optometric Association awarded him the Glen Stone Outstanding Contribution Award, and in 2003, he received the Optometrist of the Year award.
Honors include; Outstanding Young Man in America and Who’s Who in American Politics. In 2005, he was awarded the Mountain West “People First” Humanitarian Award and the New Mexico State University “Friend of the College” Award.
Dr. Terry Marquardt served six terms in the New Mexico House of Representatives. In 2003, he was elected by his peers to Minority Caucus Leader, and in 2005 to the leadership position of Minority Whip. He served on the Judiciary, Business and Industry standing committees as well as the Finance, Health, Education Funding Formula, Water and Natural Resources, and Legislative Leadership Council interim committees.
He has been awarded the Legislative Leader award by the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce; the New Mexico Legislative Business Star award by the Association of Commerce and Industry; the National Legislator of the Year award by the American Legislative Exchange Council, and in 2005, New Mexico Legislator of the Year by the New Mexico District Attorneys Association.
